Last second post. Sorry I missed my assigned day, time ran out as it does sometimes and I couldn’t keep up. So here.

The scene popped into my head as I was finally reading Season 8 and took up residency there. Call it grieving, call it commemoration, call it missing the last person she felt a real connection to, call it being lonely. Whatever you call it, in my world, Buffy needed it.

Okay, I needed it. Season 8 made me really, really need it.

We’ve seen Buffy forever drifting away from people, isolated, disconnected. Her very personal curse, as scripted by Joss. And maybe it’s because I read the story though my shipper-tainted glasses, but I could just imagine her slipping away for a few minutes in the middle of the night to remember. Maybe it happened just the once. Maybe it’s become a little ritual when she’s feeling especially low. Maybe there’s a baby slayer regularly swearing at her mysteriously disappearing nicotine.

I slipped the scene between the pages of the comics on the sly, but feel free to imagine it whenever you see fit.

Summary: It's a Casablanca inspired Buffy fic! Set in an alternate 2017. Things haven't been going well in the Buffyverse. Spike and Buffy shared a wonderful summer a couple years ago, but he vanished suddenly just before Buffy recieved an terrible injury at the hands of the Scourge (the demon Nazis from Angel's Hero). Now she's running a nightclub and trying to forget about him. But, of course, things aren't going to be so easy.
Word Count: 1409
Author's Note: t I'm a total fandom newb, and this is my first story for Seasonal Spuffy, hope I'm posting it right. Really it's more of a vignette, or the begining of a story. I wanted to write more but have had crazy life stuff going on including moving and a (relatively minor) surgery! Despite it now being as finished as it could be, I'm fairly happy with some of what's here, and I was determined to post something regardless. I do have more planned out though, and will try to continue it very soon. Please let me know what you think, any feedback (including constructive criticism) is much appreciated. Not beta'd, so I appologize for any mistakes.

Previously in "Little Sister:"

Thirty years after Buffy Summers freed the demon essence that powers all Slayers from the Shadow Men, Addie McElroy is a young Slayer out of the San Diego creche. Believing that their mixed human and demon nature means that Slayers, like souled vampires, are doomed to Hell, Addie conceives a daring plan to save her sisters' souls. That plan involves kidnaping the granddaughter of the infamous Buffy Summers herself, and it doesn't go well - Addie is captured by Buffy and Spike, who contact her Watcher and make arrangements to return her to the Council.

Addie's faith in what she knows about Slayers, vampires, and rogues is shaken by her encounter with Buffy and Spike's daughter Vicki, while Buffy fears she's inadvertently damned the Slayer line. But it's not until Addie's fellow Slayer Alicia arrives to rescue her, and Buffy discovers Alicia's true heritage, that things really hit the fan. In order to thwart Alicia's dangerous quest for vengeance against the Summers-Pratt family, Addie is forced to do exactly the opposite of what she intended to do, and now she must face the consequences...

Moony’s Notes: So a couple of months ago I texted bewildered with a plot bunny, hoping vaguely that she might write it for me. She said, no no, I should write it for her. But both of us were too busy and it was very sad. So then I said, let’s do it together! Sometimes, I have good ideas :) Honestly, the original bunny was for a one-shot smutlet, but I guess this one caught ficomatosis (get it? *snerk*) because, oh look, we’re closing in on 30k and only just getting started! This whole process has been so much fun, with much more to come :D Enjoy!
Bewildered’s Notes: Real Life has been keeping me from writing for a while, so when the_moonmoth texted me an idea for a collaborative fic, I was reluctant to take on the commitment… for about two seconds. In honor of the Buffy 20 Years Anniversary - I really wanted to work with the publicity photos. The cast reunion photos are totally wonderful - the EW did an awesome project especially loved the Special Edition Covers. I treated myself to a set - too bad EW did not do an adequate job on the mailing. Wish I could get James Marsters to autograph his cover for me.
