In need of champion tag wranglers

rebcake made the excellent suggestion that we set up a tagging system for this comm. Reb volunteered to help go back and tag old entries, and I can as well, but as of this post there are 1,668 entries in the comm (woohoo!) and so we could maybe use a couple more volunteers. *g* I'd also like someone to partner with me in tagging entries for future sessions.

Anyone game to do either or both? Or, further suggestions for tags? I can't guarantee we'll use them, but a little brainstorming would be a great help.

ETA: Taggers found! Thanks much to angearia, gillo, and abelina. However, suggestions for the tags themselves are still welcome.

At the moment I'm thinking the following tags:

+ tags for all seasons of BtVS, Ats S5, and post-series
+ author tags
+ form categories (fic: one-shot, fic: multi-chapter, poetry, art: icons, art: banner/wallpaper/manip, art: vid - what other art categories would be useful? What might people want to search specifically for?)
+ fic genre categories (post-apocalyptic, time travel, amnesia, episode-specific, vamped character, parenting - others? These are ideas I got from buffyversetop5. However, for the tag wranglers' sanity, we want categories that are not too subjective (like "angst") and can be easily identified from the fic header.)

Hurrah! Not to worry; it should be pretty straightforward once we decide what tags we want. Just a bit time-consuming.

It would probably be worth organising it so each of us has a specific task, like authors' names, category, year etc...

Presumably you'll have to give us temporary mod access?

Yes to the mod access. But I don't know that it'd be that much easier if we each tagged with different tags, since half the job is just loading and editing the separate pages. I was thinking more that we'd all get on the same page about exactly which tags we were using and how, and then each of us go through and tag the next few as we have time.

¡Yay! I like the form categories, and think maybe you could have a "art:other" to capture anything unusual. I'm already thinking of Barb's "Attack of the Cookies Monsters" and mcneil's fumetti comic from the last round.

Genre categories will need to be strictly limited, for sanity's sake, as you say. Perhaps keep it to just one, two, or three maximum. Example: funny, time travel, babyfic (leaving aside the amnesia, body-swap, and Pinocchio crossover elements). Dunno, really. Tricky stuff.

You're right, I don't imagine most fics will have more than three genre elements. But I'm hoping for a fairly small number of genre categories, anyway, and only ones that are really obvious. I'm afraid "funny" might be too hard to judge, though.

Although, if someone wanted to write us a humorous Pinocchio time travel crossover with amnesia, bodyswap, and a baby at the end for the next round, I probably wouldn't complain... *g*

As well as author tags there should be artist tags and vidder tags.

Do we need a fic: WIP category? Or a category based on rating?

I think the rating thing is a good idea. Someone else mentioned wanting an NC-17 tag, but I doubt people care much about the differences between G, PG, PG-13, and R, so "rating: NC-17" and "rating: other" seems like it ought to be sufficient.

Thank you for doing this! I'm waiting for a nice chunk of vacation to read through some of the earlier years since I didn't find this community until this year. Just wasn't online as a Buffy fan when it was airing Season 4 on.

I'd love to see tags for existing 'verses. Not sure if there's any way to communicate this in a tag, but knowing where to find the rest of the series would be great.

I think creator tags will do a lot of the heavy lifting for this sort of thing. Plus, a lot of the wider 'verses are continued outside this comm, so going to the creator's journal will probably be necessary anyway.

I agree. I think if someone wants to hunt down the rest of the 'verse, they can just go to the author's home journal.
