Thanks go out to everyone in this community. I had fun with this story.
---The Following Summer---
"Angel? Are you really, seriously sure about that? Because I'm going to ask him, and if he says yes, you can't complain if he goes along with you. Ok, ok, just checking. I'll let him know. Talk to you later. Oh, and be careful." Buffy turned off her cell phone and came into the kitchen to check on Spike.
"Sounded like it was getting ugly in there."
"Yeah, well. What are you making?" She scrunched up her nose in disgust.
"Started out as a nice thick blood stew. It needed a little kick so I threw a few extras in." He offered her a taste from a wooden spoon.
"Sorry for asking. You up for a working trip with Angel? I think it just about killed him to ask, so it's probably pretty important."
"Hate to be away from my girl, but the Bit wouldn't mind the space, I bet. Two of you could curl up and do girly things. How long-"
A loud knock sounded at the door. After a questioning look at Spike and his returning shrug, Buffy went to answer.
A filthy Illyria waited impatiently on the other side. Her hair was brown but irregularly streaked with blue. When the door opened, she lost no time with her demands.
"The battle is over. I require safe, comfortable housing for six to nine months."
"What-" Buffy's response stopped short as Illyria pushed her way into the room. When her entire body came into view, it was obvious that some changes had taken place. Illyria's shell body was at least six months pregnant.
"I said, the battle is over. I won."

2006-04-12 14:26 (UTC)The thing that surprised me about writing this (my first finished fic!) was how much is still rattling around in my head re: subplots, actions, and motivations that never even got close to the page. I expected a time crunch with editing, but those crazy characters have a lot more going on than I can explain in a concise, interesting way, at least right now.
