¡Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm not sure I'd characterize the ending as happy so much as hopeful. I mean, things could get really ugly. If not for Spike and Buffy, then for the unguarded Hellmouth. Who can say? (Well, the person who writes the sequel, I guess. If that was to end up being me, chances are good you'd get a happyish ending, though.)
I don't think that Spike's attraction to Buffy has much to do with the skin she's wearing, although the Slayer part of the equation might matter. I suspect you and I are in agreement about that, eh?
