Spike being unloved is very, very wrong. We must fix it, stat! (Except that it's kinda appeals to my sadistic side.) I thought the image of him as the grumpy neighbor running kids off the lawn was silly/heroic. And yes, about 100% more action than he got in the actual episode.
I admit I was thinking of a famous photo — of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square at the end of WWII — when I wrote of Spike's joy. It always makes me feel happy, though slightly disturbed. What did the nurse think about it, anyway? Still, Spike's joie de vivre (joie de morte?) is one of his better features.
