¡Yay! I'm pleased that you're enjoying it. It is fun to write Spike and Joyce together. They aren't coming from the same place, but they are both able to see the humor in things, which goes a long way in getting along.
Yeah, Spike isn't just stripped of his physical defenses at this point. If anything, the emotional revelations are worse for him. And, once he gets some of his physical power back, the emotional weakness remains. (But I think he kinda likes it that way.)
