Actually, I agree with you that they don't have anything to work out--but I'm not sure that Buffy actually realizes that yet. I think she knows it deep down, but she has a hard time being emotionally honest with herself and she's held on to the idea of Angel for so long and she's so stubborn that I think it might take some time for her to figure out that there was nothing there to work out at all. Probably not as long as it took in this fic, but she was also mad at Spike. ;D
Even with my myopia on the subject, I can almost see it here. I keep forgetting how young she is, and that these lessons take time.
Her decision to fight (which she does best), and his to surrender (which he does so prettily) and the resulting negotiation of terms using their combined arsenal of words, gestures, and exceptionally expressive kisses make it beautiful.
