The last line is meant to evoke the possibility. I suppose it all depends on what you consider to be Spike's home at the end of this fic.
I'm not usually a fan of an open ending, but I think what you've done here works. I first read it and thought he went after her. Then I read it again, and thought he'd fried in the sun. I read it now, and I can see it going both ways. Spike's afraid. He'd hoped that the baby would be a good thing, and his hope was shattered. The question is: is he ready to give up entirely?
