Spike was reluctant to give in to that part of his nature – but kicking some monk ass showed him that his fears were unfounded. Buffy was afraid to give in to her bloodlust – but that, too, was not the nightmare scenario she imagined. And maybe, just maybe, finding that they didn't need to fear those things makes them think that they don't need to fear Buffy's pregnancy, either.

Plus, I thought it was funny (though perhaps not in the 'haha' sense) to write a non-sex scene that somewhat inverted typical sex scenes.
