You've left me feeling great sympathy for Spike. He fell into The Initiative's clutches because he couldn't get Buffy out of his head. Now, for want of her he's stuck with the chip. It's no wonder Spike went right for the throat with Riley. He's angry and adrift and Riley and his gang are to blame. How better to hurt the soldier than tell him he got to the slayer first?
Riley pushing Buffy to declare her love believably did just the opposite and her attraction to Spike is bubbling just under the surface. It's like she took the breakup as free license to jump the poor, neutered vampire. Spike's going to need to find himself again. He'd never be happy as the slayer's lap dog.
