Do you post manually (not with a client etc.), just copying to an LJ entry? I use the HTML; then I got to use the tags. But I do nothing different like at http://druffine.livejournal.com/19901.html (that's the same explanation for LJ cut but in some steps) or from the FAQ. But the HTML tags work only for HTML updates. For Rich text you have use the rich text editor for that.
I've looked for the third entry I was thinking of = this one. But I don't think that is still an issue or a solution for you.
Sorry that it doesn't work for you. You know that you can only see if it worked when you watch the entry looking at the LJ? *is clueless* I can only wish you good luck for finding out what doesn't function.
