I think I mentioned this before, but I'm really very big on truth and honesty being powerful forces, and that section of Buffy being questioned was one of the first that I wrote on this fic.
No, Giles did not go about that in a very good way, but in all honesty, there is a possibility that she may have just done the same thing that was done to her that she resented so much the previous year. Giles was weighing Buffy's answers against what she was like when she returned - what he'd observed anyway - as well as comparing Spike to Angel (not a good thing in any case). And Buffy only heard the part where Giles implied that Spike may not have been in Hell, because of her own experience.
