Ooh, I've never seen that film, but I love slightly surreal/fantasy/sci-fi tendencies in 'normal' situations. They make things all the more interesting, I think, because the author can (try to) get away with more extreme/generalised ideas and see where they lead, rather than being confined by realism. Getting the Immortal in this fic was a lot about that, because as they are I don't find myself terribly convinced by the comics' stance that 'everyone just really likes Harmony' - and until I could get to a place where I'd convinced at least myself of the reason why everyone hated Buffy now I didn't feel very happy writing about it.
