Oh, Buffy. Yeah, what you said - getting it wrong, as per usual. Happily, he's a resilient sort. There was backstory I couldn't quite cram in here, which is to say one of Angel's shadier contacts drops a mention that a gory goddess is looking for a slayer, probably Buffy, and Spike volunteers to help out despite estrangement because Team Angel has heard through the grapevine that Buffy is more or less left out on her own again... I have to believe that he's always come back if he really thought Buffy was in the kind of trouble he could help with.
