No, you may have a point... the transition to Spike's difficulties may have been too abrupt. And you're absolutely right about Buffy's compromise not being a real solution. I don't think she thinks it is either. I don't want to give too much away, but the situation will change, and Spike coping will occur... it just wasn't the insta!cope Buffy had hoped it was.
