I've heard of people using cooking "bags" instead of wrapping the bird in foil, but... dear dog, no.
I figure, Buffy wanted the same TG she always had growing up, so she found the recipes her mom and/or dad always used, and tried to follow them. Sure, she could have gotten through much of it on pure Buffy determination, but there's gotta be some non-trivial baseline level of competence.
Personally, while I've been pressed into service on the vegetable front, I'd never even attempt our stuffing, let alone an actual turkey. That thing is a giant bird! You have to take guts out of it, and tie it up with strings!
