This fills me with glee, because it combines all the things I like most about S7 Spike-and-Buffy (I'm a big fan of the soul and what it means for Spike and what it means to Buffy) with that great fanfic trope of Buffy realizing that Spike can try really hard without it and that the journey towards trying to be more, to change, is what's important.
Seriously: this is like having my cake and eating it, too.
Lots of great lines here, but this one just made my heart shatter:

Oh, Buffy. The fact that this still hangs over her just breaks my heart (and reminds me of the_royal_anna's meta on Buffy being worth a soul).
