Yeah... I share your distaste for Scoutmaster Buffy as portrayed in the comics... One of the things I enjoyed most about Season Seven was its willingness to show that Buffy? Kinda crap at this leadership thing! The long speeches, her tendency to be secretive and brutal by turns, her inability to let go and trust other folks with the vital jobs... Faith kinda nailed it. Slayers, at least the old-school ones who already went through that wringer of isolation and lonliness and loss, are not so much built to be team players. It works if you've got Scoobies - they have a different skill set, and they're willing (most of the time) to play backup to your point. But other fighters? Yeah... No. I just can't believe that the Buffy who spits all over Quentin Travers would last long in a similar Big Boss position without really resenting it. When I'm feeling charitable, I chalk up all of her crazy-bad choices in the comics to resentment bubbling out...

[livejournal.com profile] frenchani was talking about Egyptian gods in a totally random context the other day, and I kinda got thunderstruck by the paralells... *eyes Sekhmet statue on her coffee table* A goddess who thwarts evil by dismembering it? Who also happens to be the protector/avatar of women, and every now and again gets carried away and scares all of her buddies? Hmmm....

Man, I had really meant to leave this as a sort of "monster of the week" one-shot... But I am sorely tempted to sequelize! We'll see, I guess.

As ever, thanks for your fun, thorough, and thought-provoking comments!
