Excellent capture of Buffy's near obsession with Spike. Just the idea of giving him up has her filled with almost panic. It makes me anxious about whatever spell she's thinking of casting in order to make their relationship morally palatable.

I loved this wrung out line: ...’cause there weren’t enough blows in her to drive him away. The sheer weight of his endurance was just too much for her. Spike's devotion is, indeed, a heavy cross to bear when you're filled with self loathing.
