Oh my.....this could go terribly wrong before it gets better. Buffy is coming from a position of assumed superiority and still looking at Spike as far beneath her due to WHAT he is. She is still so focused on that instead of what he has (and more importantly) hasn't done. I look forward to this journey of discovery with her.

"she was the center of his universe. Sex created a bond between them, and she hated herself for it" She is so close to an understanding here and yet still so far. She has yet to truly SEE him. The fact she assumes the human was some petty criminal speaks volumes!

"it would keep right on going, ’cause there weren’t enough blows in her to drive him away. The sheer weight of his endurance was just too much for her." Another important revelation....his loyalty. That alone should throw light on the idea that not all vampires are alike, that Spike CAN love in the true meaning of the word.

"just a few punches could make Angel go for her throat. And tonight? Tonight she’d given Spike a beating second only to the one Glory treated him to, and not once had he offered to hurt her. He hadn’t even stayed in game face.
the WAY I relate to him caused it."
Ahhhhh yes! I have cited this difference more than once. Three smacks is all it took for Angel to nearly drain her. Months of abuse didn't cause Spike to so much as take a nip. No chip prevented his doing what was "natural"....his love for her alone did the job.

"What if she tried?" Indeed! What if they had ALL tried to draw him further into the light instead of shoving him away and reminding him he belonged in the dark? His endless quest to be accepted, to be loved would have brought many of the changes the soul brought had he been given the help he sorely needed and had earned.

Just excellent! Loving every bit of this story. You have a very polished style. It reads as a novel not solely because of the length promised. You have crafted a story that promises to entertain while exploring some of the areas canon let slide.
