I never felt that Spike got the credit he should have gotten for helping out the Scoobies and taking care of Dawn for the whole summer after Buffy died - and then when she was brought back, everyone went back to treating him as they had previously. So, I thought it would be a good idea for Buffy to experience things from his perspective in a dream.
