I love that you remind the reader of Spike's very dark and evil past even while showing how far he's come by sheer will alone (and love for Buffy). It isn't the dark past that impresses but the journey he's on. Still it adds so much depth to him to remember his real past...all of it and I am delighted that you did it here where it is most logical. To feel the intensity of love for his sons only to have it brought hom how many fathers he deprived of their equally loved children would only happen to one who had traveled far within their own soul and not lied to themselves. What a great father he will make!
