The content of the poetry apart, I have always been fascinated by the nuts and bolts of his writing. They were plays for acting, not reading. Did he just sit and make himself “do another two acts before bedtime”? Were there many rough drafts, do you think, or was what we get what he wrote?

I love the idea of Walsingham as one of Travers’ minions! Maybe I’ll bring B and S back for Charles I. Spike in a feathered hat appeals to me!
